05/15/2008 - Flushing, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Washington Nationals have placed oft- injured first baseman Nick Johnson on the 15-day disabled list with a torn tendon in his right wrist, the team announced Thursday.
Johnson, who missed the entire 2007 season after recovering from a broken right leg, suffered the injury in his last at-bat during Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the New York Mets. It is the ninth consecutive season Johnson has sustained an injury, dating back to 2000, when he was in the New York Yankees' farm system.
The 30-year-old was struggling prior to the injury, hitting just .220 with five home runs and 20 runs batted in through 38 games.
To replace Johnson on the 25-man roster, the Nats activated first baseman Dmitri Young from the 15-day disabled list. Young, who was on the shelf with a sprained lower back, has appeared in just two games this season and is 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI double.
Last year, Young was a National League All-Star selection and hit.320 with 13 homers and 74 RBI.
